Amigurumi Totoro Free Pattern

Who is Totoro?

Let’s start with the fact that there is no creature in this guise and with such a name in Japanese there is no folklore, Miyazaki thought it completely. It looks like tanuki (raccoon dogs are fantastic inhabitants of the forest), with ears and eyes resembles a cat, a lot he has in common with an owl (he makes hooting sounds and can even fly).

Totoro is the embodiment of the forest, its Guardian. Japanese beliefs are characterized by belief in the kami – the deities that inhabit our world. They live in rocks, trees, streams.

Each forest, river and mountain has its own Guardian. This is a powerful creature which protects its possessions from evil, including people.
