sc – single crochet

Tip!

You are going to crochet in a continuous spiral, do not join the rounds.

Use a stitch marker or safety pin to keep track of where the round begins.

A wooden chopstick is perfect to use to get the piece thoroughly stuffed.

EYES (make 2)

Using Rainbow Cotton 8/8 in Light Brown and a 3.5 mm hook

Ch 6

Rnd 1: Start in the 2nd ch from the hook, 4 sc, 3 sc in the same st, continue on the other side of the chain row, 4 sc (11)

Rnd 2: 1 inc, 3 sc, [3 sc in the same st] x3, 4 sc (18)

Rnd 3: 1 inc, 6 sc, [1 inc] x5, 6 sc (24)

Finish with 1 sl st

Cut yarn but leave a long tail for sewing

Place a 14 mm safety eye in each eyepiece. Do NOT attach the backpiece of the safety eye yet.

HEAD

On rounds 5-7 you are going to crochet with both Cream and Koala/Teddy Bear. Join the new color during the final step of the last stitch.

Using Baby Snuggle in Cream and a 5.0 mm hook

Start with a magic ring

Change color to Koala/Teddy Bear

Rnds 9-13: 48 sc (5 rounds, 48)

Take a small piece of Koala/Teddy Bear and make some stitches into the face if you feel that you need to even out the color changes.

Now you are going to attach the eyepieces with the safety eyes. Place them between rounds

4 and 5 and attach the backpiece of the safety eyes to secure them.

Sew in the eyepieces.

Embroider a nose and mouth.

Rnd 14: 3 sc, 1 dec, [6 sc, 1 dec] x5, 3 sc (42)

Rnd 16: 2 sc, 1 dec, [4 sc, 1 dec] x5, 2 sc (30)

Start stuffing and keep doing that as the hole becomes smaller.

ARMS and LEGS (make 4)

Using Baby Snuggle in Koala or Teddy Bear and a 5.0 mm hook

Start with a magic ring

Rnd 1: 6 sc in the ring (6)

Rnd 2: [1 inc] x6 (12)

Rnds 3-4: 12 sc (2 rounds, 12)

Now you are going to attach the claws. Place them between rounds 2 and 3. See pictures on the last pages of the pattern. Do some tight knots so that the claws don’t come off.

If you are going to give the sloth to a small child I recommend that you skip the claws.

Rnd 5-21: 12 sc (17 rounds, 12)

Cut the yarn but leave a long tail for sewing.

Stuff the arm/leg approximately ¾. Sew the top together

Pin the arms and legs to the body and sew them on.

Embroider cheeks in Pink.

And you’re done!
